Plogbillsgrupp frikänd efter att avrustat USAs krigsflygplan

25 juli frikändes de fem plogbillarna i The Pitstop Ploughshares. Med hjälp av hammare avrustade plogbillsgruppen ett krigsflyg från USA 3 februari 2003 som mellanlandade på Shannon Airport i Irland på väg till Irak. Irakkriget bröt ut veckan efter.

Inspirationen till plogbillsaktioner kommer från ickevåld, civil olydnad och Mika 4:4 ”De ska smida sina svärd till plogbillar”

De fem är från tre olika världsdelar:

Deirdre Clancy, feminist och redaktör från Irland.

Nuin Dunlop, socialarbetare i Catholic Worker, från USA.

Karen Fallon, forskare från Irland.

Damien Moran, katolik från Catholic Worker från Irland.

Ciaron O’Reilly, utfört två plogbillsaktioner tidigare, från Australien.

"POST ACQUITTAL STATEMENT", DRAWN UP, CONSENTED ON & RELEASED TO MEDIA - BEFORE PIT STOP PLOUGHSHARES FIVE LEAVE COURT 23

The jury is the conscience of the community chosen randomly from Irish society. The conscience of the community has spoken. The government has no popular mandate in providing the civilian Shannon airport to service the US war machine in it's illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq.

In 1996 in Liverpool the Jury acquittal of the four 'ploughshares' women contributed to the end of arms exports to the Suharto dictatorship in Indonesia and the independence of East Timor.

The decision of this jury should be a message to London, Washington DC and the Dail that Ireland wants no part in waging war on the people of Iraq. Refuelling of US warplanes at Shannon Airport should cease immediately.
